🌿 GETTING TO KNOW US

What Is Lifeline Wellness Institute?

Two decades of nature-based healing, a residential campus in Knoxville, Illinois, and a growing community learning to treat health as a whole β€” body, mind, and spirit together.

A vision born from personal transformation

Lifeline was born in 2002 with a bold vision: to make whole-health recovery accessible and affordable. Its inspiration came from Lifeline to Africa, a nonprofit that shared timeless healing principles β€” sunlight, fresh air, nutrition, rest, water, exercise, balance, and trust in God β€” and our founder, Peter Carstens, set out to bring those truths into everyday life.

Peter, an agricultural engineer from Germany, had faced serious health challenges of his own: obesity, hypertension, liver problems, chronic fatigue, and suspected colon cancer. Instead of resigning himself to decline, he embraced the Natural Laws of Wellness β€” and reversed his conditions.

WHERE IT BEGAN

That transformation became the seed for Lifeline.

From that turnaround came Lifeline's founding philosophy: instead of treating symptoms one at a time, help people understand and restore the conditions their body needs to recover on its own.

Based at our campus in Knoxville, Illinois, Lifeline describes itself first as a wellness education center rather than a conventional medical facility β€” connected to Lifeline to Africa, the nonprofit ministry under which it operates. Over more than 20 years, that philosophy has been taught internationally, first entirely through residential stays on the Knoxville campus, and now through both in-person programs and the Lifeline Wellness App.

Today, Lifeline is led by Ramon Irizarry, our Director β€” and his path here wasn't the usual executive track. Ramon is a program alumnus himself: before ever stepping into leadership, he went through Lifeline's own program firsthand, as a participant. That lived experience still shapes how he leads. He isn't running Lifeline from the outside looking in; he's someone who's been through it, and who now spends his time overseeing and guiding the organization forward.

Over two decades, Lifeline has helped thousands of people across America, Africa, Europe, and Asia heal from chronic lifestyle disorders, regain vitality, and become aware of the deeper connection between their mind, body, and choices.

We've become known for plant-based nutrition, lifestyle counseling, detox rituals, and health-enhancing therapies. Many who began as participants have since become leaders and change agents, carrying this message to their families, communities, and beyond.

Who we are today

If you've only ever seen Lifeline through a single email β€” a Detox Your Health promo, a KYH Camp date, a workshop invite β€” it's easy to mistake us for a lineup of programs. We're not. We're a wellness community built around one belief: that lasting health comes from treating the whole person, not chasing symptoms one at a time.

OUR BELIEF

Health isn't a program you complete. It's a relationship you build with your own body.

🌿 Our foundation: the 14 laws of wellness

Lifeline's approach rests on the Natural Laws of Wellness that Peter Carstens lived and taught from the very start β€” fourteen laws built on a simple, old idea that modern wellness culture keeps rediscovering: the body has a remarkable capacity to heal itself when it's given the right conditions.

A community, not just a client list

This is, at its core, a community doing the work together. Our monthly workshops bring people together around real topics β€” nutrition, stress, the emotional roots of physical symptoms β€” so that change happens alongside other people going through the same thing, not in isolation. Workshops, KYH Camps, and residential stays all exist for that same reason: connection, not just information.

If you're new here, there's no single "right" place to start. Whether that's a 7-day reset, a full health evaluation, or simply showing up to a workshop, every door leads back to the same 14 laws β€” and a Care Partner ready to walk it with you.
